You don't need to know Kryptonian history to understand DC characters.
They are built on universal patterns of human behavior.
Here are the 8 Core Archetypes from our DC Character Test, explained simply.
The 8 Archetypes
1. The Idealist (Hope & Responsibility)
Example: Superman
Real World: The born leader who feels responsible for everyone. They are optimistic, powerful, and protective.
Risk: Taking on too much and burning out.
2. The Strategist (Order & Control)
Example: Batman
Real World: The problem solver who prepares for every worst-case scenario. They value competence and discipline above all else.
Risk: Paranoia and inability to trust.
3. The Warrior (Truth & Action)
Example: Wonder Woman
Real World: The diplomat with a sword. They value truth and will fight for it directly. They are less secretive than the Strategist but more aggressive than the Idealist.
Risk: Rigidity and moral absolutism.
4. The Speedster (Heart & Impulse)
Example: The Flash
Real World: The bleeding heart. They care deeply and act quickly. They are the glue that holds friend groups together.
Risk: Changing their mind too often and lack of focus.
5. The Rebel (Freedom & Chaos)
Example: Harley Quinn
Real World: The wild card. They reject social norms and value authenticity. They are fun, chaotic, and fiercely loyal to their tribe.
Risk: Destructive behavior when bored.
6. The Architect (Ambition & Intellect)
Example: Lex Luthor
Real World: The self-made visionary. They believe in human potential and hate relying on "saviors" or luck.
Risk: Arrogance and envy.
7. The Agent (Instinct & Survival)
Example: Catwoman
Real World: The survivor. They look out for #1 but have a hidden soft spot for the underdog. They live in the gray areas.
Risk: Trust issues and cynicism.
8. The King/Queen (Power & Duty)
Example: Aquaman
Real World: The reluctant leader. They are torn between two worlds (work/home, duty/freedom) but step up when needed.
